AT&T Uverse FINALLY available in the Point

I've been patiently awaiting the arrival of AT&T uverse in the hood; I noticed some of their ugly local delivery fiber cabinet stations along 56th, but hadn't seen one close enough for final mile delivery. Anyone spot these things?

Regardless, the service is now available to most a bunch of Imperial Point addresses (including mine). You can check yours here: http://www.att.com/u-verse/availability/index.jsp.

Anyone have it installed yet? Care to share your experience?

  1. AT&T Uverse Finally Arrived! Don't hold your breath! Three weeks ago AT&T called me direct and told me that we had it. I went to the website to check and according to their website my address showed that we had it. Two men from AT&T spent the morning working on my phone lines doing the connections. About noon when they went to test. Guess What? We DON'T have in on NE 20th Terrace. They did the same thing to my neighbor next door a month before me. Get this, a week after trying to connect and finding out that we don't have it, they called me again giving me the same offer and a discount.

  2. Niiiiice. They have adverts all over Craig's list looking for bounty based salesfolks for this area too. A bunch of folks at work (mainly live in Delray/Deerfield/Boca) have Uverse and are pretty satisfied with the service. That said, I switched away from DSL years ago because the twisted pair copper runs in our neighborhood are ANCIENT. I was wondering how AT&T was going to deal with that. It's one thing to light the fiber, its another to bring usable copper into an older neighborhood. I might have them come out just to see.

  3. I have had U-Verse for about a year now. The service is fine but there is something that AT&T doesn't tell you in the ad. Yes you can record up to four programs and watch them on any TV that has a receiver BUT you can only record programs from the main box (usually in the living room). What that means is, if you are in bed and you come across a great show that you want to record you have to get up, walk to the living room, turn on the television, wait for the system to come up, then find the program you want to record, then record it. Furthermore you cannot pause or rewind live television from any TV other than the main one. Which means if you are in bed watching a show that you like you cannot pause or rewind the show without getting up and going to living room to record it. FYI.

  4. Any idea on how you were you able to get it so early? I wonder if there was some specific issue that kept them from delivering service in my part of the 'hood ...

Anyway, I *was* very interesting in getting this installed but the wife ixnay'd the idea. She is all about on demand and Uverse's on demand offerings are pretty slim pickings (especially in HD) compared to Comcast.

  5. IDK why we had it on our end so long ago but we did.

  6. The fact that you can only record the shows on the main box and the fact that possibly my street might not have Uverse even though we were told it does makes me in no hurry to sign up. Does anyone know if it is true that all modems must be changed no matter what? That's what the ATT rep who came to our door said. He said we need to schedule to get a new modem no matter if we get Uverse or not (because bellsouth/ATT is our server).
